August 5th Labor Day!
Holiday Picnic!
Island Lake Recreation Area,
Dodge Shelter,
6301 Kensington Rd. in Brighton
What's going on?
Let's join Crossroads Singles from Oak Pointe Church in Novi, for a fun-filled picnic on Labor Day! They have a shelter reserved in the vicinity of many great park amenities, including a biking and hiking trail and Island Lake.
Please bring your favorite outdoor games.
There are picnic tables at the shelter, but consider bringing a more comfortable lawn chair.
Directions: Take I-96 to Exit 151, Kensington Road. The park entrance is ΒΌ mile south. Turn right after the toll booth and proceed southwest on the park road until you reach the Dodge shelter. It is effectively at the end of the road (~4.6 miles from the toll booth).
Cost: $10 in person the day of the picnic. If you register online in advance, the cost is only $5.
Online registration will end at Midnight on Friday, September 2nd.
The park entrance is free if you have the Michigan Recreation Passport. If you don't have one, you may purchase the annual passport onsite for $17. It is valid until your vehicle registration expires.
What to Bring: Please bring a side dish to pass and a serving utensil as needed. Fried chicken, bottled water and pop will be provided.
Note: This is an alcohol-free event.
To register for the picnic, please go to:
https://oakpointe.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1329912Attention: The park may be closed due to over-capacity at the more popular areas later in the afternoon. If this happens, try to explain to the officers that you are going to a reserved shelter and they may still let you into the park.
Alternatively, if the officers will not let you in, you may park your car at the Green Oaks Village Place Mall by the JC Penney and take the trail connector path east to Island Lake. It is about 0.7 miles on the path to the general vicinity of the Dodge Shelter.
We suggest that you arrive early (11-11:30 am) to avoid being turned away because the park is full.
